Sometimes men wonder whether they should be chivalrous or not. Within the American culture, bad boys are often the ones who get the girl. It isn’t the good guy even though he is the obvious best choice. Why is that? You may be wondering, well, should I be chivalrous?

In the end, it always pays to be chivalrous. You do have to strike a balance.  You don’t want to be a door mat, but treating a woman like an inanimate object will get you nowhere fast.  It is true that women may look for a bad boy sometimes, they never end up with the bad boy. Besides, bad boys are allowed to be chivalrous. That’s the best combination. You can still be rough around the edges, live life on the wild side, and remain a chivalrous man.

What does chivalry entail?

Hmm….Well, it’s the classic southern mannerisms. The “Yes, ma’am” “Yes, sir” to those who are much older than you are or in positions of great authority. Opening the door for every woman. Paying for the women’s meal on dates.  Chivalry is actually about being noble, about caring for those around you and accepting your place in society.  It goes all the way back to the knights of Europe.  Knights held a special station in society, and it warranted that they knew special mannerisms.

The only word of caution is your level of chivalry. Sometimes men take chivalry to a point where they are actually asking the woman to be completely dependent on them. In today’s society, many women now value their independence and will feel insulted if you act like they are fragile.  Plus, don’t fawn over your date.  She’s a person and she wants to be treated like one.

The key is to do every action out of love and out of respect. You don’t need to hold her hand and escort her into the diner, that suggests she can’t get in by herself. However, opening her door for her, suggests kindness and respect. It’s all in the details. Make sure that you don’t dampen her sense of independence.

Chivalry is not dead. Use it to your advantage. She may not actually be expecting you to be chivalrous in the first place, as many men are not.  Women may not ask for it, but they love it when their man is chivalrous. If you watch the way women swoon over men who practice it, you’ll see what all of the fuss is about. It will greatly influence the kind of women you attract. Try it out and you’ll see what I mean.

So should I be chivalrous? Yes, absolutely.

When your relationship is going well, don’t wait for something to go bad or think that things will continue that way forever.  You should do a “relationship tune-up” which is what I recommend to help in making your girlfriend feel wanted.  Relationship tune-ups are necessary to keep the vitality and life in our relationships.  Without it, we slip into stagnation.

Surprise your girlfriend!   I don’t mean for you to be a stalker, of course, but you do need to add some spontaneity to your relationship.  If she gets bored, then the flame and passion of your relationship quickly fades into oblivion.  Being unpredictable makes her think about you even when you’re not there, which makes her crave you.  But, if you’re not a particularly spontaneous guy, what are you to do?

One thing I always say is that you should breakup your routine.  I realize some people are creatures of habit.  You like routine and you like the safety that normalcy bring you. That’s perfectly fine, we’ll start off with baby steps.  How about seeing your girlfriend where she would never expect you?  Sometimes I would dress up and roleplay with her while I knew she was at her favorite cafe.  I’d pretend to be a high rolling casino mogul, and she was the young girl who caught my eye.

You can have fun with this idea!  Relationships are supposed to be about having fun, so the more enjoyment you can inject, the more your girlfriend will feel wanted. The other “relationship tune-up” I recommend, is leaving little creative thank you notes.  This is vital if you live together.  Try leaving little notes saying “You’re the best” or anything funny that pops into your head.  Try to do it creatively.  Remember, spontaneity is the key here.

Remember, she wants to know that she is THE woman in your life, and that you treasure her as well as yourself.  Leaving little notes, or doing a little roleplay is not out of the question.  Try and get outside your comfort zone.

What better way for a couple to bond than counting calories together when making a meal?  Weight Watchers is a popular diet plan and very well known.  With Janet Jackson as their new spokesperson, more and more couples are trying out this diet plan to lose weight so they can look great.

The South Beach Diet is much like the Atkins Diet, but allows for different types of foods that might be necessary for certain people to eat, given their dietary needs.  The South Beach is a great project for couples to take on, as it promises fast results and you’ll actually keep the pounds off.
